Last night at Broxtowe Borough Council, I posed a significant question to the Portfolio Holder for Community Safety.
I inquired if she would support my initiative to encourage all male councillors to sign up as White Ribbon Campaign Ambassadors. The response was positive, marking a crucial step towards raising awareness and combating violence against women.
The White Ribbon Campaign is an international movement aimed at ending male violence against women by engaging men and boys to take a stand against gender-based violence. Becoming a White Ribbon Campaign Ambassador involves pledging never to commit, excuse, or remain silent about male violence against women. Ambassadors play a vital role in promoting gender equality and fostering a culture of respect and safety.
Male councillors interested in taking up this crucial role can sign up to become White Ribbon Campaign Ambassadors through the official website: [Become a White Ribbon Ambassador](https://www.whiteribbon.org.uk/ambassadors-champions).
In support of this campaign, several events have been organised in Stapleford to mark White Ribbon Campaign Day on Monday, 25th November. At 10am, the White Ribbon Campaign Flag will be ceremoniously raised in the Walter Parker VC Memorial Square in Stapleford, symbolising our community’s commitment to this cause. Later, at 1pm, the 5&2 Community Centre at Montrose Court will host a White Ribbon Campaign Coffee Afternoon. This event aims to provide a space for community members to discuss the campaign, share ideas, and reinforce our collective resolve to end violence against women.
These initiatives reflect our dedication to promoting community safety and fostering a culture of respect and equality. I urge all male councillors to become White Ribbon Campaign Ambassadors and for community members to participate in the events on 25th November, showing our united stand against gender-based violence.
