Dear Stapleford & Trowell Residents,
We are reaching out to invite you to become a vital part of our community’s safety efforts by volunteering for the Community Flood Signage Scheme (CFSS). This initiative, led by Nottinghamshire County Council, is designed to enhance road safety during flood events by empowering local residents like you to take action when it matters most.

What is the Community Flood Signage Scheme?
The CFSS trains community members to close roads during times of flooding, preventing vehicles from driving through dangerous flood waters. This not only safeguards drivers but also reduces the risk of further property damage caused by bow waves. By volunteering, you’ll be helping to protect our town from the potentially devastating impacts of flooding.
Why Volunteer?
- Protect Your Neighbours: Prevent vehicles from entering hazardous flood zones.
- Improve Road Safety: Safely close roads at risk of flooding, avoiding accidents.
- Mitigate Property Damage: Help control traffic to reduce damage to homes and businesses.
- Strengthen Community Resilience: Contribute to making Stapleford more resilient to flooding events.
- Support the Vulnerable: Work alongside other community members to safeguard those most at risk during floods.
Do I Need Any Special Skills?
No prior experience is needed to volunteer. As a Flood Signage Warden, you will attend a one-day training session and receive refresher courses every three years. These sessions will cover essential skills such as water safety, risk control, and how to set up road closure signs. While some tasks may require your involvement during unsociable hours when flooding occurs, the time commitment is manageable and the role is extremely rewarding.
How to Get Involved:
If you’re interested in becoming a Flood Signage Warden and making a real difference in our community, please get in touch with the Flood Risk Management team at Nottinghamshire County Council by emailing flood.team@nottscc.gov.uk. As a volunteer, you’ll work closely with the Flood Risk Management team and receive a quarterly newsletter to stay informed about the scheme.
Your participation in the CFSS could play a crucial role in protecting our community during flood events. We encourage all residents who are interested in helping to reach out and get involved.
Thank you for your willingness to support our town in this important way.
