Community Unites to Tackle Knife Crime in Nottingham.

Nottingham residents are coming together this Saturday to demand urgent action on knife crime following a recent surge in violence. With three young people stabbed in just one week—two in broad daylight in the city centre—the community is calling for a clear and committed approach to tackling the issue.

The idea for the protest came about after Councillor Richard MacRae spoke with fellow Ambassadors of the Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP). During these conversations, he found that others, including VRP Ambassador Zoe Cooke, were having similar discussions with concerned community members. Recognising the urgent need for action, they decided to bring people together to push for meaningful change.

A Call for Meaningful Action

The organisers of the demonstration stress that Nottingham must be a safe place for everyone—young people, families, and businesses alike. While conversations about knife crime continue, they believe real solutions require investment, collaboration, and long-term commitment.

“We need more than just words,” say the campaigners. “Preventing violence is a shared responsibility, and it starts with real action.”

The demonstration will serve as a platform for the community to voice three key demands:

  • A long-term plan to tackle knife crime effectively.
  • Investment in frontline and community youth services to focus on prevention and early intervention.
  • Stronger collaboration between local communities and decision-makers to ensure Nottingham remains safe.

Join the Movement for Change

This peaceful demonstration is an opportunity for residents, parents, young people, and local businesses to stand together and call for action. Organisers hope that a united front will send a powerful message to those in positions of power.
