What Are Flood Wardens?
Flood Wardens are essential community volunteers who help their neighbours understand flood risks, prepare for potential flooding, and recover from its impacts. Acting as a vital link between residents and the authorities responsible for flood response, Flood Wardens play a pivotal role in ensuring community resilience against flooding.
Roles and Responsibilities
Each Flood Warden is assigned a specific area and collaborates with the Local Authority and the Environment Agency to ensure their community is well-prepared for any flooding events. The responsibilities include:
- Ensuring Community Preparedness: Encourage community members to sign up for flood warnings, understand their implications, and know where to find additional information.
- Communication with Authorities: Keep Environment Agency flood duty officers informed during flood incidents.
- Community Engagement: Work with the community to prepare for flood events, identifying vulnerable individuals who might need extra assistance.
- Reporting Issues: Report blockages and potential hazards to the relevant authorities.
- Developing Flood Plans: Aid in the creation of a Community Flood Plan to ensure a well-organised response to flooding.
