Community Speed Watch Scheme: Volunteers Needed to Help Keep Roads Safe in Beeston, Bramcote, Stapleford, and Trowell.

This evening, residents and councillors from Beeston, Bramcote, Stapleford, and Trowell gathered for a crucial training session on the Community Speed Watch (CSW) Scheme, an initiative designed to tackle the growing concerns around speeding in local neighbourhoods. The programme, fully supported and overseen by the local police, aims to create safer roads and protect the well-being of all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

Whilst the CSW Scheme is a police initiative, it was started locally after members of the Broxtowe Independent Group contacted the police, following concerns raised by residents about speeding in their areas. The scheme provides communities with the tools and training necessary to monitor vehicle speeds in their neighbourhoods, empowering residents to take a proactive role in improving road safety.

Tonight’s training session equipped volunteers with the essential skills needed to safely and effectively monitor speeding in their areas. Volunteers were trained on the use of equipment, data collection, and reporting procedures, with the police closely monitoring and supporting the scheme to ensure ongoing success. Additional training sessions will be available for new volunteers in the future, with the police providing updates and guidance as needed.

While there are already dedicated volunteers involved in the scheme, more community members are needed to ensure its long-term impact. With Stapleford Town Council offering their support and Trowell Parish Council expected to make a decision soon, the scheme is set to grow—but more volunteers are essential.

Anyone living in Beeston, Bramcote, Stapleford, or Trowell who is interested in helping to keep their community safe is encouraged to get involved. Volunteering with the CSW Scheme is a manageable commitment that offers real benefits for local neighbourhoods. If you’re interested in joining, please contact the police at CSW@notts.police.uk, providing your name, address, and contact details.

By coming together to address speeding concerns, we can all play a part in making our communities safer for everyone.
