I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended the Anti-Knife Crime protest in Nottingham Market Square on Saturday, 8th March. Your presence, your voices, and your commitment to change made this event a powerful statement against the devastating impact of knife crime in our communities.
The event, organised by community leaders and Ambassadors of the Violence Reduction Partnership, was well attended, showing just how many people care deeply about tackling this issue. Seeing so many people from different backgrounds standing together in solidarity was both inspiring and emotional. It reinforced the fact that we are not alone in this fight—our community is strong, and we are determined to protect our young people.
However, while I am grateful for the support, I also feel deeply saddened that we had to call for such an event in the first place. Knife crime continues to destroy lives, leaving families and friends heartbroken. Too many young people are losing their futures to violence, and this simply cannot continue.
Over the years, I have consistently raised concerns about knife crime. There were times when I was told to stay quiet, to sit down and let others handle it. But I never did, and I never will. This issue is too important to ignore. I will continue to speak out, to challenge those in power, and to work alongside individuals and organisations across Nottingham and beyond who are dedicated to making a difference.
To those working tirelessly—community leaders, youth workers, educators, families, and volunteers—thank you. Your efforts do not go unnoticed. Together, we can and will push for change.
Let’s keep this momentum going. We owe it to our young people, our families, and our future.
Thank you for standing with me. Thank you for standing for change.
