Why Vote for Richard MacRae and Donna MacRae for Stapleford and Broxtowe Central Ward?
Local Representation from the Heart of Our Community.
As residents of the area we want to represent, Donna MacRae and I understand that being in the heart of the community means we are better placed to represent you. This local connection is essential to truly understand and address the issues that matter most to residents.
Proven Track Record of Dedicated Service.
When you vote for us, you’ll get two hardworking representatives with a proven track record of supporting residents. Unlike those who only appear during election season, we are out there day after day, year-round, actively helping our community.
Taking Action on Flooding Issues.
Following the devastating flooding in Stapleford and Trowell, I set up the Stapleford and Trowell Boundary Brook Action Group (SATBBAG) to provide help and advice to those affected. I worked alongside residents who took control of the group, forming a committee, and since then, it has been registered as a charity. The group now holds regular meetings with various agencies to discuss flooding issues and push for solutions.
Donna and I were among the first to help residents when flooding hit both Stapleford and Trowell multiple times. Since then, we have trained as Flood Wardens alongside other volunteers to be better prepared for future emergencies.
Fighting Food Waste and Supporting Foodbanks.
For nearly nine years, Donna and I have been actively collecting, sorting, handing out, and delivering surplus food from supermarkets to many groups, organisations, and individuals in need. Working alongside a dedicated team of volunteers, we have now distributed the equivalent of over 1,000,000 meals—good food that would otherwise have gone to waste.
We’ve supported every foodbank in the Broxtowe area, helping keep their shelves stocked so they can continue supporting those who rely on them. We’ve also supported groups and organisations further afield, wherever there’s been a need.
If elected to Nottinghamshire County Council, we want to push for more action to tackle food waste, ensuring that good food reaches people—not bins.
Personal Commitment to Social Care and Mental Health.
Donna brings a wealth of experience from her many years working as a carer, and she has a deep interest in the social care side of Nottinghamshire County Council. She is passionate about supporting the vulnerable and making sure the care system works for those who rely on it.
I am particularly interested in children’s services, especially after speaking with officers who work to support children’s mental health. Their stories and dedication inspired me to want to get more involved in this area, and if elected, I will champion better support for our young people and the professionals who help them.
A Truly Independent Voice.
We formed and officially registered the Broxtowe Independent Group to bring like-minded people together. Our group operates without a political whip, meaning councillors are free to vote in the best interest of residents—not based on party orders. This also allows us to secure membership on more committees, ensuring greater representation at council meetings. Our only loyalty is to you.
Realistic Commitments on Roads and Infrastructure.
We won’t make empty promises about fixing every pothole. Instead, we commit to consistently speaking out against inadequate repairs and advocating for full restoration of roads that desperately need it.
Supporting Youth Services.
Youth clubs fall under Nottinghamshire County Council’s responsibility, and they are very close to our hearts. We will continue to advocate for improvements to these vital services. With Stapleford Youth Club receiving funding as part of the Stapleford Town Fund, we will ensure this money is used effectively to benefit local young people.
Standing Against a City Merger.
We strongly oppose any move to merge with Nottingham City, as we know many residents are against this proposal. Your needs will always come first in our decision-making.
Protecting Green Spaces.
We firmly oppose any road from the A52 cutting across our precious green spaces, and we have consistently fought against development on the Green Belt.
Local Elections Matter.
On Thursday, May 1st, you have the opportunity to make a significant change. Remember, this is a vote for two people who will listen to local issues and raise them in the council chamber—not for a political party to run the country. While you may have preferences for the General Election, this local election is your chance to vote for dedicated, independent representatives who will work tirelessly for you at the local level.
Thank you for your time. We hope you’ll consider us when casting your two votes.
