I have been made aware of a deeply concerning and distressing road safety issue affecting a resident on Coventry Lane, Stapleford, and I want to reassure residents that this matter is being taken extremely seriously.
An elderly homeowner, who has lived at the property for many years, was involved in a horrific incident on Thursday night when a vehicle left the road and crashed directly into her home. Shockingly, this is not an isolated event. Her property has now been struck by vehicles following road traffic collisions on six separate occasions.

Vehicles regularly travel at speed along Coventry Lane, fail to negotiate the mini roundabout at the junction with Ilkeston Road, and continue straight into the property. In the most recent incident, the vehicle entered the homeowner’s bedroom wall. This is incredibly alarming and, quite frankly, it is only by sheer luck that this did not result in a fatality.

My thoughts are firmly with the homeowner and her family, who have endured repeated trauma and disruption as a result of these incidents. No one should have to live in fear that a vehicle could enter their home at any moment.

As a Councillor representing this area, I will be speaking with the relevant council officers and other partners as a matter of urgency about this serious and ongoing issue. Given the repeated nature of these collisions, it is clear that further action is required. Measures such as additional traffic calming, or extending the existing safety barrier must be properly considered to prevent any further incidents.

I will continue to push for a full review of this location and will keep residents updated on any progress. Road safety is paramount, and we must do more to ensure that residents can feel safe in their own homes.

If you have experienced similar concerns in this area or have suggestions that may help improve safety, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
